On the weekend of 3rd and 4th October 2020 we had the pleasure to welcome Kerem Atasever, Education Officer at the Youth Education Centre Kaubstraße Berlin, as a speaker. Together with Margaux Richet and the prospective professionals in political education, he dealt with the issue of diversity and one’s own identity. Experience-based exercises stimulated deep reflection with one’s own perception as well as group processes and exclusion.

On the weekend of 19th and 20th September, the kick-off seminar for the qualification programme »Career entry To the field of civic education & youth work« took place, which is organised within the framework of the project »Migrants as youth work professionals«.
We warmly welcome all trainees! And we are very happy that we could win the intercultural trainer and presenter Margaux Richet from Berlin as trainer for our seminars. Together with Dorit Machell and Siwan Alkerdi from the project team, she will accompany the entire training and thus the learning processes of the group. Further trainers will be added specifically to the individual topics throughout the year.
Learning and (political) education was also the topic of the first weekend. We are very happy about the successful start!

The KIgA e.V. (Kreuzberg Initiative against Anti-Semitism) organised the 3rd network meeting »Political Education Work by and with Fugitives« – on September 3rd and 4th at the Evangelical Academy in Berlin.
And we were there too! Eric Wrasse, Siwan Alkerdi (from the project team »Migrant*innen als Fachkräfte der Jugendarbeit«) and Wissam Malab (»Schule ohne Rassismus – Schule mit Courage«) represented the EJBW in Berlin. This was an inspiring and exciting exchange with experts and actors from all over Germany on the topic of »Political education of and with refugees«.

Our colleague Dorit Machell represented the EJBW in the »Network Foundations and Education« in Halle. On 1st September, various foundations met with a representative of the scientific community at the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in Halle and discussed how intersectional dialogues can be more successful.
Staff from 23 foundations and organisations took part in the meeting! For example, the Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen, the Bürgerstiftung Erfurt, the Paritätische Landesverband Thüringen and the Stiftung Bildung were present.

New trainee in the project »Migrants as Youth Work Professionals: Qualification, Empowerment, Educational Programmes in Rural Areas«
Gifty Nyame Tabiri, student at the »Willy Brandt School of Public Policy« of the State Faculty of the University of Erfurt, has been supporting us since 03.08. as an intern in our project.
Immediately after joining the EJBW, she took on a challenging task: To lead the workshop »Women in Politics in Ghana«, which took place on 18, 20 and 21 August 2020 in the framework of the EJBW Summer Academy. This was about politics in Ghana in general and the (low) proportion of women in politics. Then the question was discussed: What can Ghana learn from other countries like Germany, Spain or Sweden, which have a high proportion of women in politics?
»This was my first workshop in Germany and in general. It was very enlightening for me and I am very grateful to the EJBW for this opportunity. The participants were excited to learn about Ghana – and they cooperated very well,« says Gifty Nyame Tabiri looking back on the workshop.
