Network meeting of all year groups has taken place
From 24 to 27 October, our network meeting took place at the EJBW, to which all graduates of last year’s qualification programmes were invited.
On Thursday, we started with a two-part workshop on ›Stress management‹. On Friday, participants had the option of attending workshops on ›Effects of the German colonial period in Togo‹ or ›Introduction to cultural approaches and concepts‹. The afternoon was dedicated to ›Building a profile as a political educator‹. We were delighted to have Alina Jugenheimer from AdB (Arbeitskreis deutscher Bildungsstätten, Berlin) with us to present the competency model for professionals in political youth education. Juliana Odamea Asare also led a workshop on ›Digital tools in seminar work‹.On Saturday, the participants were able to deepen their profile as political educators and deal with ›Professional branding as a political educator‹.
On Saturday and Sunday, the trainers learnt how to run and design good workshops in sessions on ›Communication in workshops‹ and ›Flipchart design‹. There were also sessions on ›Right-wing extremism in workshops‹.In addition to the varied programme, there was also plenty of fun: there was a Sengalese dinner and on Saturday evening the opportunity to attend the ›Indian Night‹ in the Reithaus.
These days were all about networking with each other and presenting our own workshops and skills. They also focussed on the future of the network. The participants collected ideas and addressed the question: ›What do we need for a strong network?‹ in order to be able to stay in contact and work together in the future.

Participation in conference “Bytes and Biases: Digital political education. But how?”
On September 16 and 17, 2024, a two-day conference on the theme »Bytes and Biases: Digitale politische Bildung. Aber wie? took place in Erfurt, in which our intern Maureen Manuella Mbouwe Mbouende and Aileen Mirasyedi (»School without Racism – School with Courage«) participated. The conference focused on the impact of social media and their possible use in civic education. Questions revolved around: how can social media be used in education? What are the advantages and disadvantages of social media? How do they affect the individual, and what can be done to reduce the toxicity of social media?
While presenting different social media and laying emphasis on the fact that these spaces are mainly the first source of information research for many young people and adults, the speaker drew our attention to Tik Tok. Tik Tok is one of the social media that seems to have a huge but debatable impact on young people. Indeed, Tik Tok’s algorithm is designed in such a way that a simple message can attract more negativity than positivity, which can have regrettable consequences in the long term.
However, the conclusion drawn from the conference is that it’s up to educators to raise awareness and protect young people’s sensibilities.share on Facebook · veröffentlicht am 17. October 2024
