Empowerment seminar for women at the Naturfreude Haus in Gießübel
Four of our Trainers form the previous qualification programmes, Elham Asadpour, Denise Lee, Joulannar Wannous and Gifty Nyame Tabiri facilitated an Empowerment Seminar for women in the Naturfreude Haus, Gießübel from the 24th to the 26th of September, 2021.
The seminar which was organized for migrant women with experiences of racism and discrimination, focused on the concepts of exclusion and othering on one hand, and inclusion and belonging on the other. A total of eleven Afghan women and their children spent the weekend together with our trainers in the Thuringer forest, where they were given the opportunity to exchange about their experiences with racism and discrimination in the German society, and also the experiences of their children within the educational context. Participants also shared with each other, how they have tried to cope with the situation, after which they all agreed on some coping mechanisms and strategies that they believed were best for addressing the challenges of racism in their everyday lives, and in the lives of their children.
At the end of the seminar, most participants were happy about the opportunity to share their experiences and coping strategies, and to get to know that they were not alone in the challenges they face as migrants.
