SOFT: The Subtle Art of Facilitation
In October 2025, the first part of our training series for professionals in international youth work, titled »SOFT: The Subtle Art of Facilitation,« took place in Italy. The second part of the event was finally held in Weimar from March 6–12, 2026.
During the seminar, participants had the opportunity to focus on what it truly means to facilitate learning and group processes:
• Supporting diverse learning needs and learning preferences.
• Co-creating a climate that empowers self-directed learning.
• Flexibly adapting to individual needs as well as those of the group.
• Encouraging collaboration and shared learning.
• Empowering learners to follow their own path—even when it sometimes feels challenging. Our goal was to create a space where these ideas could not only be explored but also experienced in practice. It was an opportunity to reflect, practice, and grow within a supportive and dynamic environment.
The project was implemented in close cooperation with our Italian project partner Terzo Millennio ETS – Laboratorio di Umana Solidarietà and made possible thanks to European funding.

SOFT: The Subtle Art of Facilitation
Borgagne (Lecce), Italy | 20–26 October 2025
This week, 28 participants from all over Europe are immersing themselves in the art of facilitating learning processes.
Together with our Italian partner Terzo Millennio – Laboratorio Di Umana Solidarietá, we are exploring what it really means to consciously facilitate learning and group processes – from two interrelated perspectives: the experience of the learners
and the role of those who facilitate learning processes. We create spaces in which learners:
• discover their own learning needs and paths instead of following predetermined structures.
• take responsibility for their learning process and experience self-direction.
• can experiment, reflect, and grow in a supportive environment.
• learn together with others – through exchange, cooperation, and shared experiences.
• understand challenges as part of learning and gain confidence in their own development. We explore what it means to consciously accompany learning processes – beyond traditional role models.
As facilitators, we learn:
• to support learners empathically and see their diversity as a resource.
• Design learning spaces in such a way that personal responsibility, curiosity, and trust can develop.
• Respond flexibly to group processes and continually reflect on our own attitudes.
• Promote cooperation and co-creation instead of merely imparting knowledge.
• Allow learning processes to happen instead of controlling them – and welcome the unpredictable as part of learning. It is inspiring to see how theory becomes practice – in a learning space that promotes openness, trust, and growth.
We are already looking forward to the continuation of the series in Weimar from March 6–12, 2026!
