No way „little thing“! Intoduction into Adultism
Understanding adultism (Photo: Steffen Walther and Jan Bernert)
Time required: 2 to 6 hours
Target group: people aged 16 and over; educational professionals, parents
Background
In our society, a power imbalance between adults and children/youth (as well as youth and children) has manifested itself, making it difficult for us to recognize it. Yet adultism is the only form of discrimination that all adults have experienced from both positions.
Procedure
We want to take a critical look at our adulthood and reflect on situations in which we behave in an adultistic way and work out approaches to dealing with children in a way that is critical of discrimination.
Objective
To recognize and understand power structures based on age, draw a line between responsibility and adultistic behaviour towards children and develop strategies for action.
