(Fight against) racism in Germany
Number of participants: up to 20 people
Prior knowledge: Language level (English or German) of at least B1
Background
The workshop aims to provide participants with a deeper understanding of racism and its impact on individual and societal levels. Different forms of racism could be discussed in the workshop, e.g. individual, structural or institutional racism.
Another focus of the workshop is on how people can actively combat racism and recognise racism (especially in everyday life) when it occurs. Specific strategies and techniques will be discussed.
An important part of the workshop will also be the exchange and discussion between the participants. Here, personal experiences and perspectives on racism could be shared and there could be room for questions and concerns.
Objective
- To provide an overview of discrimination and racism
- Recognise racism in language and discuss the importance of discrimination-sensitive language
- Recognise racism in everyday life and provide strategies on how to deal with it
- Provide an overview of the fight against racism in Germany (e.g. AGG)
Procedure
We work in a process-orientated way and are flexible to change our plan if the group needs something different. A varied programme is important to us, so we will give input, move, meditate, discuss, exchange ideas, research, do individual work and also have lots of fun.
Notes
- The workshop will be offered in German and English.
- Required framework conditions and materials: Seminar room, circle of chairs, moderation case, projector, flipchart paper, jukebox, internet access for participants
