Every man forges his own destiny! – Social inequality
Time required: approx. 3 hours
Age group: from 14 years
Number of participants: 10 – 28 people
Previous knowledge: none
Background
»Every man is the architect of his own fortune!«. If you try hard enough, you can achieve anything. This belief unites rappers, politicians, influencers and the dishwasher who dreams of becoming a millionaire in equal measure.
Does this apply without restriction? Conversely, does it mean that those who are poor have not worked hard enough and are responsible for their own situation? Is social inequality then only the result of individual performance or do we live in an unjust society?
The aim of the workshop is to reflect on these questions using real-life examples. We also want to take a look at media representations and social attributions and scrutinise them critically.
Objective
Knowledge about the causes and effects of social inequality, social attributions and critical reflection on one’s own position
Procedure
Combining knowledge and real-life references through role-playing and the use of social media
Notes
- In addition to this workshop, there are in-depth modules (each lasting 3 hours) if required.
- The workshop is offered in German and English.
- It can be booked as an on-site workshop / face-to-face workshop and as an online workshop.
