Introduction to the concepts of Diversity, Discrimination and Intersectionality
Time required: 3 to 10 hours
Target group: adults, young people aged 16 and over
Background
Diversity is hyped as productivity and innovation and is supposed to define us as a society. What are the aspects of diversity anyway? Why do we consider some factors to be »diverse« and what does this have to do with our idea of the norm? Why are other factors not considered in terms of diversity, even though they differentiate us?
And why can’t we simply celebrate diversity without dealing with power structures?
Procedure
We will first look at identity and diversity and consequently how these concepts build on the understanding of discrimination. Building on this, intersectionality according to Kimberlé Crenshaw can be introduced. References are tailored to the respective target group. Methodologically, this workshop is designed as a mixture of interactive lecture and intercollegial exchange.
Aims
The aim is to no longer use diversity, discrimination and intersectionality as empty terms, but to have gained a deeper understanding through discussion. Building on this, further steps and concrete plans for the practical implementation of what has been learned can follow.
Please note
- The format, the time frame and the specific focus will be adapted to the target group and objectives after consultation. This workshop is also possible as staff training.
- The workshop can be held in German or English and can also be requested as an online offer.
- The educational programs can be compiled into a trainig course.
