Bi, homo, trans – What? An introduction to gender and sexual diversity

Time required: at least 2 hours
Age group: teenagers and young adults
Previous knowledge: none, willingness for critical (self-)reflection

Background

The increasing visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community raises new questions for many people. What do all these letters and terms mean? Why is it important to have so many categories? We want to explore these questions in this workshop. The aim is to raise awareness among those who are not affected, while (possibly) affected people are given space to explore the same questions without having to come out. It has already been shown that contact with a queer person as a workshop leader raises many questions among the young people, which they are happy to answer.

Aims

Sensitization, creating awareness that gender affects all people and counteracting the »othering« of queer people

Procedure

We work with interactive methods that invite participants to engage with different realities of life. We explore the question of why these differentiations are (not) necessary.
