Mariam Bekchyan

Mariam Bekchyan was born in Armenia and has lived in Germany since 2014. She studied Intercultural Communication with English in Armenia. Then she came to Germany. Here she began her studies in European Studies in 2016. Since 2020 she has been working in the office of the Member of Parliament in Lower Saxony.

As a student of European Studies, she deals a lot with European, but also international societies and politics, as well as European law and administration. She works on the following topics: Human rights and especially women’s rights, gender equality, diversity and discrimination, migration and integration (specifically integration of migrants into the German labor market).

In Armenia, she founded an organization with the help of »Girls Guides and Scouts«. There she conducted workshops on women’s rights for women. Mariam wants to shape education by raising awareness of specific human rights and women’s rights issues that affect people and women in particular (e.g. violence, discrimination).

Language barriers, gender inequality and discrimination often occur when migrants want to enter the labor market in Germany. As a person with a migrant background, Mariam herself has experienced language barriers and discrimination in the workplace. Through her workshop, she wants to give insights into her experiences and impart knowledge.

Mariam offers her workshops in German, English, Russian and Armenian. She lives in Magdeburg, and she can work in Berlin and the surrounding area, Thuringia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Lower Saxony and Hamburg.
