Margarita Valdivieso
Margarita is a Colombian artist, photographer, and educator based in Berlin. Her personal experiences as a victim and survivor of the Colombian civil war have profoundly influenced her professional practice, shaping her into an activist for human rights and civic education. Holding a Master of Arts degree from Bauhaus University, she is dedicated to developing projects and conducting workshops in the realms of anti-racism, empowerment, allyship, decoloniality from a South American perspective, and intersectional feminism.
At the forefront of Margarita’s accomplishments is the creation of »Bipoc Zelebrieren,« an open-air exhibition featuring photography and anti-racism workshops. This initiative aims to amplify the voices and experiences of BIPOC individuals in Germany, fostering dialogue and understanding among diverse communities. By challenging systemic barriers and embracing intersectional approaches, she strives to create inclusive spaces where marginalized voices are celebrated and empowered.
As a teacher of decolonized photography at Bauhaus University, Margarita has the privilege of imparting knowledge and guiding emerging artists towards a critical understanding of the power dynamics within the field.
Through her teaching, she encourages students to question traditional narratives, challenge dominant perspectives, and engage in socially conscious artistic practices.
Her journey as an artist, photographer, and educator is driven by a profound belief in the transformative potential of art, the power of education, and the urgency of advocating for marginalized communities.
