From me to my Neighbourhood
Workshop time: 3 to 6 hours
Target group: Children (from 10 years) and young people from all backgrounds
Previous knowledge: No previous knowledge is required.
Background
We are constantly surrounded by news that reflects a broader awareness of social disparities, colonial history, or discrimination, but it becomes difficult to see our personal role within those global movements. This workshop is designed to review what we know about ourselves and the places we live to later learn how the economy, diversity, racism, and other forms of discrimination are present and affect the way we live.
With questions like: What are my privileges? How do tomatoes arrive to my house? do my neighbors own their houses? are my streets safe? How many different faiths are practiced around me?
Aims
The objective is to understand how political is our environment and our own lives, and how Social and economic disparities are present in them. Hopefully, after this workshop, the participants can walk through their neighborhoods and see active spaces full of potential, and be more interested in their neighbors and in their own roles within their communities.
Procedure
You can expect a lot of drawing, team playing, and creative writing. Understanding many terms and concepts like economy, diversity, sustainability, or discrimination by finding how they affect your own neighborhood and the way we build our homes and society.
Notes
This workshop can be held in English or German.
