About the revolution in Iran, and the question of what this has to do with us

Time required: approx. 45 minutes. (But there are longer versions that can be two or three hours. Each version goes deeper in the subject.)
Age group: Students, teenagers and all adult groups, people with political knowledge who want to know more about the political matters in the middle east
Previous knowledge: There is no prior knowledge needed. It would be favourable, that attendees has heard something about the current movements in Iran. If the average attendees of the workshop have higher knowledge about the matter, the information can be adapted to that level.

Background

The »Women, Life, Freedom« or »Jina Movement« was a revolutionary movement that took place in Iran in 2022. It began following the murder of 22–year-old Kurdish woman Jina-Mahsa Amini by Tehran’s Moral Police for not wearing a hijab. Her death led to widespread protests in various Iranian cities, with people demanding justice and protesting against the government. The movement gained international attention and was supported by activists, artists, politicians, and other public figures.
However, the true focus and scope of the movement were not entirely clear. Was it solely about the mandatory hijab? Did it encompass broader women’s rights issues, or did the protesters have additional demands?

Aims & Procedure

We want to give the attendees a deeper knowledge about the country Iran and what is going on there in social and political aspects. It inquires for them to get some information and try to wrap their thoughts around them.
