Stress management
Target group: Young people aged 14 and over and young adults, multipliers, educators
Time required: 4 to 6 hours
Expected prior knowledge: none
Background
Everyone is talking about stress as a health risk. Stress management apps and courses are booming. However, the apps are missing a crucial aspect: the exchange of ideas about what stress means in one’s own life and how it can be managed.
Stress management, mindfulness, etc. are caught in a field of tension: they are often criticised as tools that are only there to make people more efficient for the labour market. On the other hand, they also show what stress has to do with privilege: knowing and practising stress management methods is often something you first have to be able to afford, or access is not always expensive, but blocked in other ways.
The workshop does not avoid these questions, but takes them as the basis for its key questions: How can we deal better with stress individually? How can we help each other to cope with stress? What social factors play a role in our stress levels?
Procedure
The workshop consists of 3 parts:
- What is stress? What does stress mean to me? Where do I have the most stress in my everyday life?
- Concrete stress management: Methods to reduce stress in the short and long term
- Needs and stress: How is my current life aligned with my needs? What possibilities are there to improve this? What does stress have to do with the society we live in?
Goals
Participants reflect on where and why they come under stress. They learn about internal and external factors and are given concrete methods for coping with stress. They will reflect on their own needs and discuss ways to take better care of them. The participants will work together to identify the causes of stress in our current society and discuss what can be done about it.
Notes
- The workshop is offered in German and English.
- It can be booked as an on-site workshop / face-to-face workshop and as an online workshop.
