Jin, Jian, Azadi, together we defend life! About the revolution in Kurdistan, Iran, and worldwide & the question of what this has to do with us
Time required: 45 – 180 Minutes
Age group: Youth from 16 years on, adults
Background
The »Women, Life, Freedom« or »Jina Movement« was a revolutionary movement that took place in Iran in 2022. It began following the murder of 22–year-old Kurdish woman Jina-Mahsa Amini by Tehran’s Moral Police for not wearing a hijab. Her death led to widespread protests in various Iranian cities, with people demanding justice and protesting against the government.
The movement gained international attention and was supported by activists, artists, politicians, and other public figures. However, the true focus and scope of the movement were not entirely clear. Was it solely about the mandatory hijab? Did it encompass broader women’s rights issues, or did the protesters have additional demands?
Aims
We want to generate knowledge and awareness on the revolution movement and Iran with its social and political aspects.
