Background
This workshop aims at familiarizing participants with notions »refuge«, reasons, circumstances, life in a new place. At the workshop on the basis of cases of personal stories, different activities, video, digital and paper materials the participants will be able to explore this topic and practise together to better understand this phenomenon, feel what it means to be away from home, country, common environment. Unvolunteerily and look at stereotypes.
As the result of a workshop the participants will learn the notion of refuge, feel empathy and better understand people who had to leave their country: their background, state of things, needs, will reconsider stereotypes and prejudices towards refugees and immigrants, their level of torelance will increase.
We hope that after the workshop the participants will increase their awareness and acceptance, and openness not only to refugees but also to other groups of population, to all newcomers, will be able to see and to hear them not through the angle of stereotypes, bias and fears rather accepting and considering them as equal community members.
Aims
At the time when the extreme movements gain their popularity especially among young people, people have less and less time to explore, check the info, to meet people in person, to talk with them to know them better, when people are stressed out because of so many tasks and obligations and as the result they could be fast in their avaluation and judging that result in misunderstanding discrimination, bias, hate speech, conflicts that impact life at work, at home, at a community.
Such workshops will facilitate slowing down and learning the information and experiences of refugees and will fight with such practices as othering, discrimination, abuse and bias.
It will be useful for teachers and all school emploees as they work with school students of all backgrounds so they are able to better understand their needs to know how to help and support their students more effectively to avoid bullying, othering, hate speech against such school students.
It will be useful to school students, too, so that understanding and dialogue at school were developed.
Notes
- The workshop can be offered in English, Ukrainian, Russian, English+German.
- It can be booked as an on-site workshop / face-to-face workshop and as an online workshop.
